Some 270 sea turtles were released into the open sea last January 26 during the pawikan hatchling ceremony at the Sagip Pawikan Foundation in Sitio Fuerte, Barangay Poblacion, Morong town.
The ceremony was attended by nature enthusiasts, residents, community leaders, and 35 GNPD employee-volunteers who led the power firm’s ongoing effort to protect and preserve Bataan’s marine biodiversity.
Congresswoman Gila Garcia of the province’s Third District who graced the event said, “Ang atin pong pagmamahal sa Inang kalikasan ay hindi tuwing season lang po ng pawikan breeding and releasing. Kahit po hindi tayo magpatrol ng shores gabi-gabi pero kung ginagawa po natin ang ating responsibilidad at tungkulin sa ating Inang Kalikasan na alagaan siya, tayo rin po ay kanyang aalagaan.
Cong. Gila thanked GNPD for its assistance to the provincial government for making the pawikan hatchling project a success. In July 2023, GNPD inked a three-year agreement for funding worth P4.3 million with the provincial government of Bataan and the Sagip Pawikan Foundation to adopt the local hatchery.
